THE NATURE OF BLACKJACK

Blackjack is played between each player and the dealer. Even with up to seven players at a table, each person plays alone against the dealer. Each player who beats the dealer wins. Players also win if the dealer busts (over 21) and they don’t. Players automatically win when their first two cards equal 21 or “blackjack.” If the dealer has a blackjack, then a player’s blackjack is a tie.

Card Values: Blackjack uses a regular deck with card values the same as other games, except for the Ace. The Ace is worth either 1 or 11, depending on the player’s hand. Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth 10. The goal is to get the highest card value without going over 21. Players add the value of the cards in front of them, remembering that the Ace is worth either 1 or 11. If the card amount goes over 21, the player goes “bust” and the dealer wins the hand.

Example 1:
A player with a King (10), a 5, and an Ace, has a hand worth 16 because the Ace would be valued at 1.
Example 2:
A player with a 2, an 8 and an Ace has a hand worth 21 because the Ace would be
valued at 11.

The Deal: The dealer deals each player two cards, face up (face down on single deck games). The dealer gets two cards, one face up and one face down. Players can ask for more cards until they are ready to stop or they have gone “bust” (over 21). After players have finished making their hands, the dealer turns over his face down card. If the total value of the dealer’s hand is less than 17, then the dealer must take another card. The dealer must hit on a soft 17. If the player has a better hand than the dealer, the player wins the amount of his or her original bet. If a player gets a blackjack (21), he wins one-and-a-half times the amount of the original bet (you win 6-5 on single deck).

GETTING STARTED

An ante is required to play before each hand is dealt. This fee is collected by River Spirit Casino to host non-house backed table games in Oklahoma. Monies won at the tables by the casino create a players pool, and the money is disseminated back to the players via promotional prizes. Place your bet by placing chips in the circles in front of your seat.
